ActivismNational Cathedral, Washington, D.C. What Is Spiritual Activism?Social activism is predicated on the idea that questioning the status quo is the key to positive change.
As a spiritual activist, I believe that it is by overthrowing our underlying and embedded fear-based concepts that prevent us from questioning all aspects of our reality that we create the conditions for the emergence of a society that recognizes the underlying unity of all life. The idea that “all is one” is an enlightened perspective that leads to change from the inside out. When we begin to question all our beliefs as objectively as possible, we free ourselves from the "us vs. them" mentality and recognize the commonality between all people. As a result, our actions shift toward a more open-minded, empathetic, and compassionate stance and society—which is simply a collection of individuals—begins to shift as well. A society that understands the interconnectedness of all life cannot engage in war nor exploit the environment. A society that honors Life, creates the means to feed, educate, and nurture all its people. A society that focuses on love, can heal the planet. Some spiritual people believe that the world is an illusion and personal enlightenment is the highest goal worth pursuing. But even if the world is an illusion, it is a collective illusion that can be tended to with care and love. Speaking out against injustice, exploitation, and greed is honorable when our actions match our words. We are at a crossroads in human history. Never before has interest in spiritual matters been this high. Never before have the stakes for our own survival been this extreme. The time has come to make a stand for Life. Let us meditate and then activate. Get InvolvedGo Green
From my good friend Stacey Wolf (www.StaceyWolf.com)
Well it's an undisputed fact, the temperature of th earth is rising 2 degrees by 2050 and there's nothing we can do about it, the damage is already done. Our shorelines will disappear, storms will be greater and many species will become extinct in our lifetimes because of our habits. Scientists say that what we do today, that if we seriously begin to cut our CO2 emissions then we'll be able to keep the rise to just 2 degrees after 2050. We're not going to stop driving our cars and taking airplane trips but there is something we can do, that takes 5 minutes and one phone call to lower the emissions of your family and household and the extra costs amount to what is nearly negligible. Let's take responsibility for our part of the damage--and maybe, just maybe, our children's children will know what a polar bear is. Where ever you are in the country, take out your electric bill and put it in your bag, call from the office during your lunch break. Although a small portion of the below info is for New York City and the surrounding counties (Rockland, Orange, Westchester), three of the four companies listed serve the whole of America--that means your home, too. When you call your local utility, simply ask them about the green alternatives in your area, or call one of companies listed below. The Polar Bears are counting on us!! Please forward this to everyone you know. Green Energy: One Simple Phone Call Can Change the World! I was surprised to find out recently that where ever we are in the country, we can choose an energy supplier that will supply the exact amount of clean energy we use to the common electric grid. I was also surprised that making this switch would only cost me $1 more per month in winter and $3 in summer! And you might have a certain portion of the sales tax reduced on your bill! You can choose one of several green suppliers and your local utility company continues to distribute the energy. You don't have any disruption in service. The energy is simply created and put into the system using green, sustainable means: hydropower, solar, wind. I researched all the companies that supply this green energy, here’s the lowdown: Con Ed Solutions: (For NY City and the surrounding counties only) 1-888-320-8991 We currently pay 15.8 cents per KWH (kilowatt hour) for the dirty stuff. Totally green energy from them costs 16.8 cents per KWH, wind-only costs 18.3 cents. There is no sign up fee, cancellation fee, contract, etc. This is the easiest way to switch, just call up Con Ed and tell them you’d like to switch to green energy. You get the same lovable service, the same bill, same meter reader, etc. You can input your account # online and get a cost breakdown: conedsolutions.com/greenpower Accent Energy: (A NATIONAL COMPANY!) 1-800-928-7775 Requires a one year commitment unless you leave the area, costs roughly the same as Con Ed Solutions (roughly 16 cents per KWH), comes on the same bill. If you cancel during your contract and you’re not moving out of the area, your fee is one month’s utilities, but we need electricity so what’s the difference? There is a little more paperwork involved but if you can’t stand Con Ed and want to support an outside green supplier, or don't live in the NYC area, this is the way to go. Their website is pretty but needs work: accentenergy.com There are two other companies that currently supply green energy nationally, Econnergy and Sterling Planet. They require that you buy blocks of energy. Econnergy adds either $3.30 or $6.60 to every month’s ConEd bill but may have a different agreement with your utility server. Sterling Planet adds the blocks in chunks of $10, $20, $30 and the bill comes separately each month. I do not believe they are as cost efficient for Con Ed customers but are a nice way to invest in future renewable energy sources. Econnergy (1-800-805-8586) and Sterling Planet (1-877-457-2306). Their websites are also pretty and contain no good info, you really have to call to learn what they do in your area. Accent Energy, Sterling Planet, and Econnergy supply energy to different utility companies throughout the country. This is the fastest, easiest and most pain-free way of saving the environment--it's a no-brainer! Please don't delete this. Forward this info to friends and family and have them call their local utility to see what green options are available in their city. If just 10% of us switched to green energy, we’d prevent 3 billion tons of carbon dioxide from polluting our air! For the average customer it’s like planting 418 trees. Let’s save the environment with one phone call and then pass it on! We can make a difference--let's do it for the Polar Bears!
